4 and 5 Dec- Session 17 and 18

4 Dec- All in all, it was pad work, PT, Padwork, Bagwork and PT. Nice and shag.
I also learned the sprawl (above). (1) Hands pressing on back of assailant's head (2) legs shoot back and base out with all body weight on assailant (like when doing burpees) (3) hands always on assailant's head + follow-up combativesAlso, I learned how to execute the front and back break-fall. The front break-fall's position is essentially this (above) but the followup is a swift turn onto one's back to a guard position. The back break-fall is as such (above). We are to follow the backward momentum and sit and then roll back with the momentum and use our hands to absorb the shock. The chin must be tucked in. Notice the left leg on the floor arching to follow the momentum of the fall and also to prevent the recoil from hurting the tailbone.

5 Dec- we started with shadow boxing and then bag work and finished with PT. For the second lesson, we learned the elbow crank arm lock to utilize against knife attacks. Basically, the elbow crank is executed by slipping our blocking arm over the weapon arm and cranking up. Further restraining can be inflicted on the assailant by pushing down on the shoulder of the assailant while holding the elbow crank.

Something to be happy about

And that is that I can now go bareknuckle on the punching bag and not feel any "ouchies" with regards to my wrist. Thank you, microscopic wear, tear and repair.

3 Dec- session 16

Many new students today so the first lesson Esmond and me helped out Ashikin. Nothing new, nothing eventful.

For the second lesson, I taught Esmond defense from stick attack from front and when it is used for a baseball strike. Then we learned defense from stick attack from above. Let's say Optimus here wants to whop you one by striking his stick on you from above. There are two ways of handling this. The easier and one that is more appropriate when the assailant is close to you (1) burst in with 360 defense block (2) knees to groin (3) right arm lock around wrist and weapon while left hand strikes (3) twist out with arm lock to disarm.

The other (cooler) way is to (1) sidestep and dive in with outstretched arms over assailant's arms and the following steps are all the same.

Next I asked Ashikin about the choke with stick with the cross grip. Turns out this allows us to elbow the assailant more and also a simple fast pull down with twist of body can easily disarm the fella. Case closed.

2 Dec- Punching combinations (weights)

Xando's 1.5kg weights on each hand. Ergometrically designed for punching! :) (unintentionally maybe, I don't know) 10 sets of 10 "6" punching combinations. Nice workout and after that my punches fly fast and my hands feel light! Nais!!

1 Dec- Session 15

Sam and me got to do padwork which was fun since we had never buddied up with the punching pads before. It was fun to move around and hit according to command. 1- Jab, 2- Jab + straight punch, 3- Jab + straight punch + left hook, 4- jab + straight punch + left hook + straight punch, 5- jab + straight punch + left hook + straight punch + left uppercut, 6- jab + straight punch + left hook + straight punch + left uppercut + straight punch. PT was the stations with the weights and medicine balls. Shag. :)

Second session, we revised the defense for universal choke from behind. Then we learnt how to defend against a choke from behind with a stick. Now this would hurt in real life if it got stuck in. Honestly, can only imagine. Ouchie.

So here goes the defense drill- (1) head + body defence + verbal disarming (2) pulling down on stick + headbutting backwards (3) elbow one grip and follow up hammerfists/ elbows to head, other hand still on stick (4) turn around in inward direction to disarm (5) follow up combatives with stick.

Next time I shall ask about this situation. Looks way dicey.

And also, I shall ask about how to execute a proper sprawl.

30 Nov- Session 14

I was quite late for the first session. We did basic combatives, shadow chained-up combatives with focusing on the vulnerable body parts on our partners. Then we did bag work. Quite shag as usual and after 2 days' of food poisoning, I felt winded more than usual.
For the second session, we worked on defense from threats when seated. The basics are Krav Maga essentials: verbal disarming + body positioning + body defence + keeping an eye on the assailant's centerline (his sternum area). If spotted early, the best measure would be to get up behind the chair/ use the chair as a defense tool OR push the chair into assailant's way as painful distraction.

However if you are unable to do that and are confronted by the assailant while seated, continue with the Krav Maga essentials. Then proceed to attempt to stand up. If you are successful with this and the assailant keeps pushing the issue and his bodyweight into you, I employed the body diversion twist on Chang Wei as he is a big dude.

If the assailant pushes you back down, then continue with the essentials and strike explosively at the groin (or any opportune body area) and follow up with chained combatives.

For the last part of the session, we had different scenarios sprung onto us as we sat unawares. I like the "Hum Ji" accomplice role, that was quite funny. For my scenario, I was faced with 3 assailants. This was fun as I first engaged Chang who was directly threatening me and then kep moving, went on to attack Felix and kept the new dude away with a kick to the groin. Scenario passed and I did well! :)
